Recently, Karot Power Company Limited (KPCL), a project company of CTG Asia Africa operating the 720MW Karot HPP, and Mirpur University of Sciences & Technology (MUST) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a comprehensive scholarship program aimed at supporting underprivileged and deserving undergraduate and postgraduate students. The signing ceremony took place at the Islamabad Office.
The agreement formalizes KPCL’s commitment to providing an annual grant to cover academic expenses for up to 10 students, prioritizing those from the designated areas around the Karot Hydropower Project. This scholarship is another significant milestone in KPCL's sustained corporate social responsibility efforts, which have included developing health projects, hospitals, technical colleges, clean drinking water schemes, and road projects in the local communities over the last few years.
Mr. Liu Yonggang, CEO of KPCL commented: “At KPCL, we view our role as extending beyond power generation; we are committed to energizing and growing with the local communities. This scholarship partnership with MUST ensures that financial limitations do not become barriers to education for bright students in our project vicinity. By investing in human capital through close coordination with MUST, we are ensuring this vital initiative is managed effectively and contributes directly to the region’s long-term prosperity.”
Representing the University, Prof. Dr Muhammad Younus Javed, Vice Chancellor MUST, expressed deep gratitude for the support: “This generous grant from Karot Project is transformative. It not only alleviates the financial burden on deserving students and their families but also empowers MUST to uphold its mission of providing accessible, quality higher education.
