From November 10 to 21 local time,?the 30th United Nations climate change conference?(COP30) was held in Belém, Brazil. On November 12, the Sustainability Committee under the China Chamber of International Commerce (CCOIC) held a side event at the COP30 China Pavilion titled “Chinese Business Power Driving Global Climate Transition”, exploring China's innovations in green supply chains, energy transition, and pathways to global climate action.
Mr. Vasconcelos stated that China has become a global leader in the development and application efficiency of clean energy technologies, while Brazil possesses unique hydropower resources and effective ecological conservation achievements. The highly complementary economies of the two countries present significant potential for sustainable development cooperation. Building on its development strengths, CTG International is committed to setting a new benchmark for South-South cooperation in actively addressing climate change and promoting global low-carbon, green transition, contributing CTG's strength to the high-quality economic development of both China and Brazil.

On November 12, the Center for International Knowledge on Development (CIKD) hosted a side event at the COP30 China Pavilion on international cooperation for climate action and green transition. Key participants, including Liu Zhenmin, China's Special Envoy for Climate Change, and Francesco La Camera, Director-General of IRENA, explored topics of advancing global climate goals through green trade and shared pathways.
Mr. Vasconcelos cited CTG Brasil's practices, highlighting localized integration and value sharing as key to success. He explained that beyond developing clean energy projects, CTG deeply integrates technology?and expertise?with local needs by creating jobs, training talent, and protecting biodiversity. This respectful, win-win model, he emphasized, is crucial for sustainable project success.
Focusing on long-duration storage: key to achieving Net-Zero and renewable energy goals
On November 13, the International Hydropower Association (IHA) hosted a workshop on the urgent need for pumped storage (PSH) at the COP30 Renewable Energy Hub. Participants from CTGI, Iberdrola, SSE, Adani and other representatives acknowledged global progress in PSH development, citing examples from Europe to Australia. However, they concurred that significant challenges in financing, approving, and long development cycles persist. To unlock PSH's full potential, the workshop called for establishing clear policy frameworks, ensuring investment returns, promoting mechanisms like the Global Alliance for Pumped Storage Hydropower (GAPS), and strengthening coordination among governments, enterprises and international organizations to build a sustainable and resilient global energy future.
Mr. Vasconcelos affirmed PSH's proven flexibility and economic value. He noted Brazil's mature hydropower expertise and local manufacturing capacity provide ideal conditions for PSH development. Currently, Brazilian power generation companies are now working intensively in mapping the best sites for pumped storage development and the national institutions are debating a new regulatory framework and legislation for making it feasible, making efforts to leverage PSH's key role in ensuring energy security amid the global decarbonization drive.
Pragmatic cooperation: jointly building a clean, low-carbon, safe, and efficient energy system
On November 13, State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC) hosted a side event titled "Building a New Power System and Advancing Green and Low-Carbon Transition" at the COP30 China Pavilion. Senior Chinese and international officials delivered opening remarks, including Head of the Chinese Delegation to COP30 and Vice Minister of Ecology and Environment Li Gao and IRENA Director-General Francesco La Camera.
Participants commended China's achievements in areas such as clean energy services and advanced manufacturing. They believed that China's transition path tailored to local conditions and its direction for international cooperation not only provide actionable, referential solutions for fossil resource-dependent countries but also embody the principle of "fairness" in the global energy transition. During a roundtable dialogue, Mr. Vasconcelos subsequently outlined CTG Brasil's contributions, emphasizing that its ongoing investments in power plant modernization and new renewable projects provide crucial support for Brazil's low-carbon development.
Since its founding in 2011, CTGI has focused on clean energy investment and development, committed to driving decarbonization, fostering local green growth, and advancing the global low-carbon transition. By the end of 2024, the company's total installed capacity reached 19.77 GW, with 90 controlled power plants, all of which are clean energy facilities. In 2024, these facilities generated 35.74 TWh of electricity, reducing CO? emissions by 29.75 million tonnes. Through concrete action and global collaboration, CTGI will continue to work with partners worldwide in investing, innovating, and sharing knowledge, further contributing to a sustainable, green energy future.
